Jesus is the pitcher, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. What comes to mind for me when I think about this verse is that we are earthen vessels in which is poured the Holy Spirit, and the precious blood of Jesus Christ, which is our salvation, as well as His body that was broken for us. It would've been just as easy or valid perhaps to put treasure, and gold, or priceless gems in these jars, but to me this interpretation, with the jars filled with wine(Jesus's blood) and food (Jesus' body) is far more apt.

Supporting verses:

" and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” -1 Corinthians 11:24-25

2 Corinthians 4:7

  • "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us."
